Short story is one of the most valuable treasures of Bengali literature. Beginning with Rabindranath, short story has evolved as an important genre in Bengali. We record some short stories for our print disabled readers every year and we upload every month at least one of them on to our podcast site BpA’s Bengali Audio Stories for everyone. And every October we bring out an anthology of the short stories podcast during the year in CD for those who cannot listen to these stories online.
This year our podcast site has completed its seventh year. We have compiled BPA Podcasts VII collecting the new stories podcast during October 2017 to September 2018. We have not included in this collection stories like Sarbapeksha Sankatmay Shikar by Syed Mujtaba Ali, Samantaral by samaresh Majumdar and Niskriti by Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay as they were already included in other anthologies.
We are sure, you would appreciate the great variety of Bengali short stories in this collection. Some of these authors are hardly known to most readers. Jyotirmala Debi is a forgotten name. Ramesh ChandraSen’s “Domer Chita” was considered a landmark story in modern Bengali literature. We have not rememberred him either. We are proud to present to our readers stories by these little-remembered writers. We have also included here two stories from Bangladesh – “Khanankari” by Mainul Ahasan Sabir and “Korbani” by Mahbub Ul Alam. Readers of West bengal have little scope for reading these beautiful stories written in the other half of Bengal.
