Kolkata HC Allows VI Petitioner Scribe of His Equal Qualification in the Primary TET

Shri Amal Mishra, a visually impaired candidate of the forthcoming Primary TET with M.A. degree in History from Jadabpur University, filed a writ petition in Kolkata High Court challenging a Notification dated January 4, 2013 issued by the Government of West Bengal, School Education Department, granting permission to visually challenged persons to choose their amanuenses from amongst students of Classes IX and X only for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) to be conducted by the Board of West Bengal Board of Primary Education. Since students of class X are now appearing at the test examination and students of class Ix have their examination shortly after the puja holidays, the petitioner demanded removal of restrictions on qualification of the scribe in line with the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment vide their letter dated February 26, 2013. Hon’ble Justice Debangshu Basak has passed an Interim Order allowing the petitioner to appear at Primary TET scheduled on October 11, 2015 with a scribe having educational qualification not “higher or greater than that of the writ petitioner”.
