Sadhan Gupta Is No More

Shri Sadhan Gupta is no more with us. He passed away at his residence last night (September 19, 2015) at the age of 98. Shri Gupta was born on November 7, 1917, the day of the historical Russian Revolution. A life-long follower of communism, he always felt proud of this auspicious coincidence. He lost his sight at an early age. He received education at Calcutta Blind School and Presidency College in Kolkata. He studied law in Kolkata and England and built up a successful career as a barrister. He was elected to Lok-Sabha in the fifties and to the West Bengal Assembly in the sixties. He was the Additional Advocate General and Advocate General of West Bengal government for a long time.

We, the sightless community, remember him for his contribution towards movement for the rights of the disabled people. He was one of the founder members of our Blind Persons’ Association. He committed his full support to us in different movements even when he was past eighty. We had him beside us while celebrating Golden and Diamond Jubilee of BPA. He donated a large number of Braille books to our library. We shall no more hear his baritone voice uttering our protest.
