Flood in Kerala has stunned all Indians. It has taken a toll of nearly four hundred lives according to the government. It has renderred thousands of people homeless. The actual damages have been caused by havoc landslides. We do not yet know how long Kerala will take to recover from the ravages of this devastating flood. Towns and villages and acres of agricultural land are still under water. Reports of casualties and damages are pouring in from the worst-affected districts of Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Thrissur.

Blind Persons’ Association cannot turn a blind eye to this unparallelled natural calamity. It may surpass the catastrophe that took lace in Kerala in 1924. We have tried to help our fellows in times of disaster on previous occasions, like the earthquake at Uttarakhand. Our resources are limited. We rely on mass contributions for most of our activities. Our members and volunteers arranged a fund-raising campaign at Kaji Nazrul Islam (Garia) Metro Station today for the victims of the flood in Kerala. We received spontaneous response from the commuters. The organisation will send the collected funds to some reputed organisation working in the flood-affected areas of Kerala.
