Blind Persons’ Association has touched yet another milestone by embossing a complete collection of the songs of Kazi Nazrul Islam in Braille. The Braille edition was released by Shri Ramanuj Dasgupta, a renowned artist and music teacher, at Indumati Sabhagriha (Jadabpur, Kolkata) on 11th June 2016. Smt. Anasuya Mukhopadhyay, another noted singer and music teacher, and Shri Ananda Deb Mukhopadhyay, Secretary of the historical National Education Society, were also present on this occasion. Members of the Association paid tribute to the poet through his songs and poems. The main highlight of the programme was a lyrical presentation, “Samyabadi Nazrul” based on the songs and poems of the poet.
The book has been embossed from the sixth edition (1999) of Nazrul-Giti by Haraph Prakashani, Kolkata. The editor, Abdul Aziz Al-Aman, has also added to the appendix some rare songs that were not published at the time of this publication. The book is also enriched by useful footnotes throughout the book. Complete in fifteen Braille volumes, it will cost INR 924. As usual, any student can collect it for INR 150. The book, taking into account expenses on the paper alone, will cost the organisation INR 1,600 on a moderate estimate.
