We are delighted to record for students and young friends an extremely informative book, Janbar Katha (I) by Debiprasad Chattopadhyaya (19 November, 1918 – 8 May, 1993). Shri Chattopadhyaya, a renowned teacher and philosopher, started the Janbar Katha series with some of his friends to present the history of the earth and human civilization for the young. The touch of his erudition has enriched the book, but he did not deviate from the easy-going story-teller’s style. It tells us how the sun, the moon, the earth and its inhabitants, trees and plants, insects, reptiles, birds, mammals and human beings came into existence. Though meant for the children, we have to admit, it rouses curiosity in the grown-ups too. This is the first book of the 10 books series. Remaining books will contain discussion on history, politics, art and philosophy.

The book was first published by national book agency in 1954. We have recorded it from its 4th reprint in June 1997. The book is about 2 hours and 55 minutes long.
