We are happy to come up with the fourth book of the Janbar Katha series edited by the renowned philosopher, Shri Debiprasad Chattopadhyaya. Shri Chattopadhyaya concentrated on the history of civilization in the second and third book. The fourth and fifth books will focus on the development of science and technology.
Book IV discusses in plain and simple words how primitive man began cultivating and how modern man has employed various methods of cultivation. It has a very good description of the process of making clothes and of tanning leather. It discusses in some length the features of molecules and atoms and their role in forming organic and inorganic compounds. Readers will enjoy reading about extraction of iron from iron ore, production of steel, cement, paper, glass and plastics. The most interesting parts may be the passages on measurement of air temperature and pressure and of rains, along with making of simple thermometer and barometer.
